Essential TOEFL Vocabulary List and Practice
If you are going to take the TOEFL®, you will find the vocabulary exercises in this website very helpful. They will help you to review, practice and acquire a lot of the words and expressions that you might need to use in the Writing and Speaking sections, or that you might come across or be tested on in the Listening and Reading sections.
The vocabulary section of this website contains different sets of vocabulary that are most common in the TOEFL iBT test and all are sorted by category relevance. These sets of vocabulary are available in PDF formats. In addition to the word sets we present some exercise files again in PDF format containing different work sheets and practices regarding the vocabularies you already learned. We are trying to set up and run an online test of vocabulary proficiency for iBT TOEFL test to help students challenge their TOEFL vocabulary strength online.
First you should download each set of the words in the order you would like to learn. Each set of the words have some related exercises to download too. After working on the meaning and use of each set you should do exercises and check your answers using the key on the same page. We recommend you to keep your corrected answer sheet in order to review them before the iBT TOEFL test every now and then.
Also remember that there are other methods and references of acquiring new vocabulary. For example, you should read as much as possible from a different variety of authentic reading materials (books, newspapers, magazines, etc). Especially academic papers and books can help you in most of the sections of the iBT TOEFL test.
There is a lot of TOEFL material available, but we particularly recommend standard ETS books and references, which provides comprehensive practice for all sections of the exam, as well as offering essential language skills development and useful studying strategies. It also gives lots of vital information on the test. This website is created for the Internet-based TOEFL, but it is also useful if you are going to take the older, standard computer-based TOEFL or even in some levels paper-based TOEFL.
